Tokyo Pequeno Bunnyzilla – Fine Art Print
Award // 39th Creativity Annual Award 2009 – Platinum for Specialty Printed Item.
Story // Once there were 2 bunnies, Lila from the East and Biga from the West. As the sun rises from the East, Lila leaves her home, her friends, her families, journeying into the West with only her dreams to fuel her forward. As the sun sets, she finds herself in the City of Angels, where buildings are big, land is big, food portions are big, and most of all, anyone can dream big and be big. Here is where she meets Biga.
Lila finds Biga strange. They struggle to connect, This puzzles Lila as she knows they are the same species.. Biga teaches Lila to survive in the big city, to be brave, to think like the other bunnies in the West; to act big, to talk loud, to demand rights. Lila finds Biga’s arrogance unacceptable. Biga finds Lila’s reserved daintiness to be FOB (Fresh off the Boat). Night and day, they fight about ethics, culture, religion. Lila insists on modesty while Biga reminds Lila to embrace the FREEDOM this land has to offer. As both bunnies continue to struggle, their differences somehow inspire other bunnies to converse.
Designer Mel Lim pays homage to both bunnies by recreating their lives in this piece called “BUNNYZILLA! LA LUCHA DE DOS MONSTRUOS.”
Letterpress brings out the intensity of both bunny lives through every impression taken on the vintage Vandercook.

In celebration of its 40th Anniversary and in honor of its unique relationship with Los Angeles, Aardvark Letterpress owners and operators Cary and Brooks Ocon, along with designer Rick von Dehl and co-curator Lisa Jane Persky invited a wide variety of artists with strong ties to Los Angeles to create the first group (18 in a series of 54) of original, limited edition letterpress prints based on a game of chance: Loteria.
Traditionally, Loteria is played with cards that represent significant Icons in Mexican culture, For Aardvark, artists were asked to select and interpret some part of the Los Angeles experience in their own style and process for an L.A.-centric Loteria card. The numbers and titles were selected by the artists, while the layout follows the format of the original Loteria decks. In collaboration with these artists, Aardvark has produced Los Angeles Loteria Series I; 18 original cards, 13”X 19 3/4”; each in an edition of 100, 30 of which are complete editions in a boxed suite.
The singular visions depicted on the Aardvark Loteria cards reflect the diversity of Los Angeles and Angelenos. From drive-in-movie dreams to drive-by wake-up calls, they represent the spectacularly unique highs and lows of living in and loving Los Angeles.
